The Delaware city of Harrington, named after a former chancellor of the state, Samuel M Harrington, has a population of about 3700, is located in Kent County and is the home of Harrington Raceway. The track first opened for racing as early as 15th August 1946, although at that time it was known as Kent and Sussex Raceway, and was the first track to operate a pari-mutuel system in Delaware. The 4 furlong oval track, with 134 metre home straight and 3200 seater open air grandstand, is on Delaware State Fairgrounds, offering a programme of Standardbred horse racing in Spring and Autumn, culminating in the Bobby Quillen Memorial.
